阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 's food security research network co-sponsors film showing: "fight for true farming"
(october 16, 2007 --thunder bay, on) in cooperation with various community groups, the food security research network is sponsoring a showing of the fight for true farming, a film by the national film board of canada. the film will be shown at the paramount balcony theatre on wednesday, october 17, and starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp - admission by donation.
"this film exemplifies the struggle for food security, in which we are all involved," says dr. doug west, associate professor of political science at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and member of the food security research network. "it is important to engage our audience through this medium in order to continue the community dialogue about the importance of our food supply."
in this documentary, crop and animal farmers in quebec, the canadian west, the us northeast, and france offer solutions to the social and environmental scourges of factory farming. driven by the forces of globalization, rampant agribusiness is harming the environment and threatening the survival of farms. the proliferation of genetically modified organism (gmo) crops is a further threat to biodiversity, and also to farmers' autonomy. in europe and north america, a current of resistance brings farmers and consumers together; the groups insist that it is possible, and indeed imperative, to grow food differently. the fight for true farming is a film of grim lucidity and irrepressible hope.
