climate change conference provides valuable information

(september 11, 2007 --thunder bay, on) many scientists consider climate change to be the most serious threat facing the world today. environment north, the food security research network, and 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 student union (lusu) are hosting climate change: solving it together ii. rotary clubs of thunder bay, the chronicle journal, and bay credit union are sponsoring the event, which takes place at the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 outpost on saturday, september 22. research on the effects of climate change in northwestern ontario will be made available to the public and to 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , along with possibilities for mitigating its effects. the conference includes a local food lunch and displays by local food producers.

speakers will offer research about how climate change is affecting our forests, water supplies, weather, food production, and lake superior's temperatures and water levels. building retrofitters and designers will share their experience in reducing the energy use of commercial and public buildings. speakers will discuss adaptations and solutions that may provide economic and environmental benefits to the north. the topic of climate change will be introduced by graham saunders, president, environment north and dr. david kemp, 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 . the event's speaking panel includes: dr. jay austin, professor, university of minnesota-duluth; robin reilly, superintendent, quetico provincial park; dr. mike flannigan, canadian forest service; dr. bill parker, professor, 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ; peter spafford, building professional consortium; michelle gibson and john stephenson, architects; and various members of the food security research network.

"climate change can no longer be dismissed or simplified as a trivial matter," says graham saunders, president of environment north. "among many other indications within our region, continuous declines in water levels and increases in forest fire activity are becoming more and more worrisome. there are no magic answers to the issue of climate change, so local residents and organizations need to start working together to generate ideas and develop solutions."

the conference will close with the otesha project, a group of 15 touring cyclists who invite us to make wise consumer choices in the interests of the environment. the group will perform an award-winning, curriculum-linked theatre piece.
