• the formula sae® competition is for sae student members to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style racing cars
• the fsae formula one student competition is recognized as the most prestigious competition internationally; the michigan event is recognized as the largest engineering event in the world
• the 2009 fsae michigan competition was held at the michigan international speedway, may 13-16, 2009
• a total of 120 teams were registered, from europe, asia, south america, and north america
• lufsae placed 43rd overall
• of first year entries lakehead, came at the top, winning the rookie of the year award
• the endurance test was a 22 km race on a track with sharp turns and other cars. this event was at the end of the competition - only 45 teams' cars survived to compete in this event
• of the 45 teams in the endurance competition, 37 successfully completed it
• lakehead came in 27th in the endurance test, with no spare parts, and no repairs to the car
