lakehead and university of minnesota duluth collaboration injects excitement in region

(may 12, 2009 --thunder bay, on) 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and the university of minnesota duluth (umd), along with umd's swenson college of science and engineering (scse) and natural resources research institute (nrri), have created a new partnership designed to enhance research at both institutions, and to strengthen community linkage between thunder bay and duluth.

"the purpose of the research partnership is to develop a relationship that will allow us to make the most of our mutual strengths," explains dr. rui wang, vice president (research) at lakehead. "we will collaborate on research, cultivate co-operative training for research trainees, and hold annual joint research workshops." the agreement involves an annual $20,000 funding commitment - $10,000 from each institution - to be used to support annual workshops for faculty and 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , travel, and the establishment of a team building exchange fund. the agreement lasts for two years and is renewable.

dr. mathew leitch, associate professor in the faculty of forestry and the forest environment at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , and pat donahue, manager of the secondary wood products program at nrri, will be the first joint-research team supported by this research partnership to advance product development for the domestic market.

dr. leitch is researching wood drying techniques that are the foundation of thermowood, a value-added bio-product that is also being further developed by donahue. donahue is a wood scientist with a background in product development. his interests include hardwood lumber and dimension lumber, laminating, engineered wood flooring, interior millwork, fenestration, cabinetry, office furniture, small diameter timber processing, and wood frame housing systems.
"this partnership will enable us to strengthen our local industries, allowing us to leverage investments on both sides of the border. by working together, we will gain from economies of scale - in other words, we will be able to produce goods on a larger scale, with fewer costs," says wang. "our local economies in northern ontario and northeast minnesota will be in a position to gain a competitive edge against off-shore producers of similar products. both 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and umd, as well as the cities of thunder bay and duluth stand to reap the rewards of this collaboration," says wang.
