centre for northern studies opens climate change discussion at symposium march 6 and 7

research chair in northern studies will commemorate the international polar year and "darwin year" celebrations, with a two-day national symposium and forum on 6-7 march 2009.
the symposium will consist of three parts:
1. six canadian scientific superstars will explore the consequences of climate change on canada's biota in a plenary session. each one will be challenged not only to document the effects of climate change, but to provide solutions.
2. speakers will identify and network with tomorrow's star researchers by inviting a top graduate student or post-doctoral fellow to accompany them. these young scholars will be challenged to collaborate and begin building effective research programs for the future. an open forum will take place with a productive dialogue with six of canada's most acclaimed ecologists and evolutionary scientists.

, as well as individuals external to the university, will contribute posters on northern research.
on friday, march 6, the first scientific plenary session takes place in atac 1003 at 2:00 p.m., with poster presentations in the agora from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. the premiere event, the open forum, takes place in uc1017 at 7:30 p.m. friday. on saturday, march 7, the symposium continues at 9:00 a.m. in uc1017, with graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛
and post-doctoral fellows presenting on ecological topics ranging from tracking permafrost thaw in lakes, to the implications of climate change on red squirrels.
"climate change dominates canada's political landscape, as well as our scientific and social research agendas," says dr. doug morris, event organizer, and canada research chair in northern studies. "no issue is of greater importance to the future of our nation, or to our planet. canada, with a reputation as an international leader in northern research, has given studies of climate change its highest scientific priority. much of this effort has been galvanized through our nation's involvement in the international polar year (ipy) research program."
