lakehead receives environment canada research funding
the government of canada is investing $30 million over 5 years to help restore the health of lake simcoe through an initiative called the lake simcoe clean-up fund administered by environment canada. environment canada, which calls for proposals for this funding twice per year, this week announced that 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜
orillia professors, dr. nandakumar kanavillil, dr. sreekumari kurissery and dr. mary thornbush along with dr. peter lee of lakehead thunder bay have been
awarded $165,000 for a research proposal they submitted.
this is a milestone for lakehead - orillia as it represents the first major research funding the campus has received. it also represents the first time an interdisciplinary group of academic researchers from the orillia campus, in collaboration with the thunder bay campus, submitted a proposal together as a team and succeeded in getting major funds. dr. kanavillil, the principal investigator (pi) of the project,
submitted the proposal on behalf of his team. as university located within the watershed, lakehead-orillia's commitment to this project is noteworthy and highly significant. collaborators such as the city of orillia, kids for turtles environmental education, twin lakes conservation club, lake simcoe conservation authority, and the ministry of the environment are whole-heartedly supporting this initiative.
the funding which starts in the fall, will allow the researchers to study water quality parameters, flora and fauna from different points of the wetlands as well as a look at sediment samples. the main focus of the venture will be to study the possibility of the wetlands acting as a nutrient buffer by retaining and precipitating nutrients (using methods such as wild rice cultivation), especially phosphates and total phosphorus, thereby reducing the phosphorus loading into lake simcoe. the research area evaluated will include mill creek and victoria point wetlands, both in orillia.
the results expected from this initiative will be published in scientific journals and will be used for the development of a public awareness program concerning the clean-up of lake simcoe. this will give the team the opportunity to hire 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛
including graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛
to assist in the research, thereby producing highly qualified personnel (hqp). it is the hope of the research team that along with the research results to help clean-up lake simcoe, work can be done with this funding that will pave the way for the purchase of new equipment and the creation of more lab space, which in turn will attract more 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛
