(september 9, 2011 - orillia, on) lakehead launches the new academic year with a full slate of exciting events that are all part of fall orientation 2011. over 1,000 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are enrolled at lakehead's orillia campus this fall and many are first-year 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 who will take part in orientation activities from september 9 to 11.

orientation focuses on introducing 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to the basics of life at lakehead and in their new community through tours of classrooms and labs, workshops, a mock lecture, and many opportunities to connect with other 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and faculty members.

"the sooner new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 feel comfortable in their new environment, the more receptive they are to learning, which helps their academic success," says lakehead student affairs officer simon looker, who leads the orillia campus orientation planning team. many of the orientation activities will be led by student ambassadors, who are upper- year 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 who have been trained in how to guide new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 . "their training teaches them how to help minimize the anxiety, apprehension, and concerns that are common among first-year 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 ," notes looker.

orientation activities began on friday, september 9 with welcome activities and a "meet and greet" expo lakehead from 12 noon to 2 pm at the university avenue campus. the expo is an opportunity for 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to get to know about the campus and student services. the event also includes a barbeque lunch and a "dunk the dean" contest. 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 can top off the day's activities by going to the movies - on the lawns of the university avenue academic building.

on saturday, september 10, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 have further opportunities to get to know the community with a visit to downtown orillia for the "loonie lunch" event. many downtown businesses are offering 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 a menu item for a dollar. in the evening, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will cruise lake couchiching aboard the island princess.

orientation activities conclude on sunday with a trip to see a blue jays baseball game in toronto.
