please note that the stage 2 canada biomedical research fund and biosciences research infrastructure fund call is now open.
 
the overall objective of this major, large-scale initiative is to build a strong, competitive biomanufacturing and life sciences sector in canada as well as to ensure canada is prepared for future pandemics.  this will be accomplished by increasing domestic capacity through investments and partnerships the goal of which is to produce life-saving vaccines and therapeutics.
 
all applications at stage 2 must be endorsed by one of the hubs funded under stage 1 of the cbrf-brif competition.  as well, applications must be aligned with one of the hubs’ priorities, vision, and program of research, support pandemic preparedness and respond to emerging health threats.

congressionally directed medical research programs (cdmrp) autism research program (arp) funding opportunities for fiscal year 2023 (fy23)

how to apply: 

the fy23 defense appropriations act provides funding for the arp to support research of exceptional scientific merit and innovation with high impact that focuses on autism spectrum disorders (asd).  the managing agent for the anticipated funding opportunities is the cdmrp at the u.s. army medical research and development command (usamrdc).

clinical trial award – preproposal due april 19, 2023

investigators at or above the level of assistant professor (or equivalent)

or

early-career investigator partnering pi option:  investigators at or above the level of assistant professor (or equivalent) may collaborate on a single application with a young investigator (at the level of postdoctoral fellow up to early-career independent faculty) who meets the following criteria as of the application submission deadline date:

must be in a current postdoctoral training position or have completed postdoctoral training by the application deadline.

is no more than 7 years from the receipt of a terminal degree.

has the freedom to commit at least 50% time to the project.

•   supports research with the potential to have a major impact on the treatment and/or management of asd.

•   preliminary data relevant to the proposed project are required.

•   early-career investigator partnering pi option supports the development of young investigators pursuing or wishing to pursue a career in asd clinical trial research.

•   pre-application submission is required; application submission is by invitation only.

  • ·    the maximum period of performance is years.
  • ·    single pi:  the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $1,900,000 in direct costs (plus indirect costs).
  • ·    early-career investigator partnering pi option:  the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $2,200,000 for direct costs (plus indirect costs).
  • ·    indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.

  • ·    supports the development of innovative, high-impact ideas that advance the understanding of asd and   ultimately lead to improved outcomes.
  • ·    preliminary data are required.
  • ·    partnering pi option:  up to two investigators may collaborate on a single application, each of whom will be recognized as a pi and receive a separate award.

pre-application is required; application submission is by invitation only.

  • ·    the maximum period of performance is years.
  • ·    single pi or partnering pi option:  the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $550,000 in direct costs (plus indirect costs).
  • ·    indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.

 

career development award – preproposal due april 19, 2023

independent investigators at or below the level of assistant professor (or equivalent)

or

established independent investigators in an area other than autism spectrum disorder (asd) at or above the level of assistant professor (or equivalent) and seeking to transition to a career in asd, thereby bringing their expertise to the field

  • ·    investigators must not have received a career development award (or equivalent) previously from any program within the congressionally directed medical research programs.
  • ·    investigators must not have received more than $300,000 in total direct costs for previous or concurrent asd research as a principal investigator (pi) of one or more federally or privately funded non-mentored, peer-reviewed grants.
  • ·    investigators must hold a ph.d., m.d., m.d./ph.d., or equivalent at time of pre-application submission.
  • ·    supports early-career, independent investigators and/or the transition of established investigators from other research fields to conduct:

○    innovative, high-impact ideas or

○    early-phase, proof-of-principle clinical trials with the potential to have a major impact on asd

  • ·    preliminary data relevant to the proposed project are required.

  • ·    the maximum period of performance is 3 years.
  • ·    the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $550,000 for direct costs.

a pre-application is required and must be submitted through the electronic biomedical research application portal (ebrap) at https://ebrap.org prior to the pre-application deadline.  all applications must conform to the final funding opportunity announcements available for downloading from the grants.gov website.  the application package containing the required forms for each award mechanism will also be found on grants.gov.  a listing of all cdmrp and other usamrdc extramural funding opportunities can be obtained on the grants.gov website by performing a basic search using cfda number 12.420.

cbrcanada has announced that nominations are now open for the following two awards that recognize excellence in community-based research (individuals may nominate themselves  or submit a nomination on behalf of an exceptional research partnership):

1. excellence in community-campus research partnership
the award for excellence in community-campus research partnership honours the contributions of a community-campus research partnership that has demonstrated excellence in community-based research process, rigour and impact.

2. emerging community-based researcher
award for emerging community-based researcher recognizes and celebrates an individual who embodies community-based research values in their work. the award is open to community researchers, phd 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 (or recent graduates), post-doctoral fellows, and early career researchers

the goals of this funding opportunity are to summarize current evidence-based knowledge in canada, to identify areas of research strengths and gaps and to mobilize this knowledge for dissemination to relevant stakeholders.

the objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

  • generate knowledge syntheses that will identify evidence-gaps and build evidence-based knowledge related to the promotion of brain health and reduction of risk for age-related cognitive impairment;
  • mobilize knowledge on the current state of science that is relevant, equitable and accessible (i.e., that identifies the current state of knowledge and gaps and is communicated effectively); and,
  • strengthen research excellence and ensure maximum research impact through consideration of diverse biological and/or socio-cultural identity factors in research design, including diverse, equitable and inclusive research methods, such as those based in indigenous ways of knowing.

the specific objectives of the knowledge mobilization component are to:

  • enhance a common understanding between stakeholders on promotion of brain health and risk reduction for age-related cognitive impairment;
  • generate accessible km products for dissemination that are tailored to relevant stakeholders based on the knowledge synthesis and includes equity, diversity and inclusion and indigenous rights considerations, as appropriate;
  • foster collaboration and partnerships between stakeholders; and,
  • increase usefulness and relevant uptake of evidence/knowledge by stakeholders, including partners and knowledge users.

canada–japan corporate co-innovation program

eligibility: 

in order to participate in this initiative, applicants must form a proof of concept collaborative research and development (r&d) project that meets the following criteria:

4.1 consortium

  • the project consortium must include at least:
    • 1 eligible canadian sme*, and
    • 1 japanese corporate partner
  • the parties listed above must be unrelated parties (i.e. no direct, indirect, beneficial or constructive ownership interest between these parties)
  • the project partners that form the consortium must agree on a plan addressing intellectual property (ip) rights and intent to commercialize

*in addition to canadian smes, other canadian organizations (research institutes, universities, large enterprises and other companies) may participate on a self‑funded basis or as subcontractors.

how to apply: 

the national research council of canada industrial research assistance program (nrc irap) has identified japan as a priority market to assist canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (smes) to engage in co-innovation partnerships to access japanese global value chains. in japan, much of the innovation activity and budget resides with its world-class large corporations. as a result, nrc irap has developed a program to support canadian smes to engage in a collaborative research and development (r&d) project with japanese multinational corporations.

this program is designed to help canadian smes adapt, validate and integrate their technologies with japanese corporate partners. successful applicants that can develop a co-innovative proof of concept project with japanese partners may be eligible to receive nrc irap funding support to execute the project.

brain canada along with heart & stroke and the canadian institutes of health research institute of circulatory and respiratory health (cihr-icrh), are excited to launch the personnel awards for black scholars. the objective of the competition is to increase the number of highly qualified black trainees across canada committed to working in the fields of heart and brain research. 

by investing in black researchers, we hope to strengthen representation in the canadian research community.
