brain canada-cqdm call for collaborative research projects on the brain
brain canada and cqdm are joining forces once again to support interprovincial collaborative biopharmaceutical research and development (r&d) projects on the brain. this partnership creates a unique funding opportunity that brings together experts from academia and industry to support the development of platforms, tools and biopharmaceuticals that will pave the way for new advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders.
this award is intended for research teams with a minimum of two independent researchers, a principal investigator from a research institution in quebec and an independent researcher from a research institution in another canadian province. they must work in close collaboration with at least one quebec small and medium-sized enterprise (sme).
the project’s budget must be between $500,000 and $2 million.
idrc international doctoral research awards
idrc international doctoral research awards (idra) are intended to build capacity and develop research skills in canada and the global south to improve the lives of people in the global south.
the objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of emerging researchers at canadian universities, growing the cohort of researchers able to design, lead and carry out high quality research that contributes to the sustainable development goals and specific development outcome areas of particular interest to idrc.
this call is open to canadian citizens and permanent residents and citizens of developing countries pursuing doctoral studies at a canadian university. awards will cover the costs of field research conducted for a doctoral dissertation in one or more countries in the global south.

operating grant: transcan-3 (transcan-3 joint transnational call for proposals (jtc 2024) in translational research for new combination therapies against cancer)
the specific objective of this funding opportunity is:
- to improve the efficacy of personalized treatment of cancer patients through the development of new combinatorial treatment strategies, based on a better understanding of drug mechanistic functions and of their impact on the disease course.

critical minerals innovation fund
to be eligible for funding, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- the applicant is a private-sector business, or a private-sector business collaborating with a public-sector academic or research institution, or a non-profit organization or association
- for projects involving collaboration between two or more entities, one entity must be the lead applicant and the funding recipient
- the project will take place in ontario
- the project involves research, development, and/or commercialization of innovative technologies, techniques, processes or solutions for critical minerals that relates to one or more of the following key priority areas:
- battery supply chain
- innovative techniques for deep exploration and mining
- recovery of minerals
- other innovative projects that support the critical minerals sector
- the project is not receiving funding from any government of ontario program
the critical minerals innovation fund (cmif) provides funding to projects that help strengthen ontario’s critical minerals sector.
the cmif supports projects that involve research, development and commercialization of innovative technologies, techniques, processes and solutions for critical minerals and relate to ontario’s key priority areas. objectives of the cmif include:
- increasing critical minerals exploration, mining, development, production and processing
- stimulating investment in ontario’s critical minerals supply chain
- enhancing collaboration between industry, academia, start-ups, and research and development firms to encourage innovation in the critical minerals sector
eligible recipients can receive up to $500,000 per project to cover 50% of eligible costs.
